Description

I've been purchasing some of the video content on the iTunes Music Store and noticed a small bug. It seems that when there are videos or cover art PDFs with an album, iTunes will sort them to the top of the list. I've tried changing track numbers to no avail, the extra content always floats to the top.

As a side effect of this, it seems that Synergy pulls the cover art from these files and displays it for every track on the album. So the new Coldplay album purchased from the iTMS has a black bar where its cover art should be.

Perhaps Synergy should ignore that stuff?

So where exactly is the black bar coming from? From which track? How would Synergy know which art to ignore and which to accept?

The code I currently have in Synergy Advance pulls the embedded art across from each track individually (ie. not just from one track which is then used for the whole album) so the behaviour will probably be a little different.

Created an attachment (id=26) Bugged view

Notice that the album art is visible in iTunes, but the Synergy notification to Growl does not display the album art. It instead displays the black opening frame of the video file.

Created an attachment (id=27) Normal view

Unlike this version, where we can see that the album art in iTunes matches the Synergy Growl notification.

I attached two images to help show the difference. The bugged view shows that even though there's an audio track file playing and you can see its album art in iTunes, Synergy uses the cover art from the video file instead for every track on the album.

It's likely that the approach you mentioned for Synergy Advanced would not have this issue, as it would properly extract the covert art image from the individual audio file, instead of using the image from the first file listed for the album. Honestly, the Synergy Advanced approach makes more sense. Is that something you're planning to back port to Synergy?

Changing assignment to reflect my new email address.
