Feature request #44: REQUEST: Auto-adjust song ratings based on play count

From a user email: "I think song rating is a under-estimated and under-used feature because rating is a long task to do and above all, it changes over time as your feelings can evolve. So I came up with this idea of having a process that would automatically rate song as you listen to them. First I don't know if you listen to music as I do, which is I put iTunes in random mode and if iTunes plays a song I don't really want to hear at that time, I use Synergy to quickly skip to the next one. And of course if I like a song, I listen carefully until its end and I wait for the next one and so on.

So, here's the idea: Have a process that watch if a song is skipped or "fully played" - If the song is skipped, then decrease its rating. - If the song is played in full (i.e. 'til its end), then increase its rating. That's it. Hopefully, I found that iTunes has a built-in feature to help this process, as there is the play counter which increases by 1 every time a song is played in full. I don't know if you noticed that this counter is only increased at the moment the song reached its end and not before. Another thing I noticed in iTunes is that the rating is not stored as a number between 0 and 5, it's a number between 0 and 100 and then rounded to 0 to 5 stars. So it's pretty easy to make increase or decrease of the rating. Of course, there are different methods : linear or logarithmic with various ratios but this can be left as an option. One may want to rapidly increase rating and slowly decrease or vice-versa or have flat increase/ decrease or even variable increase like fast increase for low-rated songs and slow increase for high- rated songs."
