Unable to use *just* function keys

Somewhere in the current string of releases, the ability to use solely a function key for a Synergy action (such as play/pause) has been removed
Any chance of having it back? A warning to advise against this yes, but for those who do want it this way, surely it could be possible?

The ability hasn't been removed. What function keys are you trying to set?
There are some keys which Mac OS X will never pass through to applications unless they have a modifier key as well (for example, keys like those used to control screen brightness, change the system sound volume, eject the optical drive tray etc, and possibly others already in use by Expos

It's telling me (for example) that I cannot use F10 without a modifier key - yet I am already doing that, and it works fine.
I recently got a Pro keyboard and wanted to move my hot keys around a bit, but have left it as is due to this issue.

What do you mean "telling" you that you can't use it? It shouldn't actually tell you anything; it will either work (if the OS passes the keystrokes to it) or not work (if the OS doesn't pass them to it). And are you using the latest version of Synergy?

Sorry, I meant it wouldn't accept it; i.e. the box displaying the selected keystroke would stay blank after pressing clear.
It seems on further investigation that the actual issue is that it won't accept F14 through F16 without using modifiers, F1 to F13 work fine without.

The OS is intercepting those keys (F14 through to F16). If you try using them without modifiers in any other application that allows you to define hot keys you'll see the same thing happens (the application in question will never receive those key events).

How odd, is the system actually using them for something that I am unaware of?

I don't know. Perhaps LCD screen brightness? If you don't have an LCD display connected then the keys will have no apparent affect.
